Mitwelt Talk to the founder

Robots have been to Mars. They still can’t read a room. Mitwelt can.

Mitwelt is the intelligence layer for machines in human environments. It teaches robots how people move through airports, hospitals and the places we share, and how to move among them safely, naturally and at human pace.

People don’t move by rules. They read each other.

Every hallway runs on norms nobody writes down: who yields, where to wait, how close is too close. Robots treat people as obstacles: in a crowd, they freeze, bump into someone or get stuck. Mitwelt learns the norms from how people actually move.

Learned where learning scales. Verified where verification matters.

It thinks before it moves: an agentic layer interprets the scene and the norms that apply here. It moves like it belongs: a learned layer anticipates people and keeps pace with them. It is safe by construction: a verified layer checks every command before it reaches the motors.

We learn from people first.

Since 2024, MOBY, our CE-marked hospital mobility device, has carried the most vulnerable patients through working hospitals, driven by people, among people. People behave naturally around a person moving a patient; around a robot, they don’t. Arena, the open benchmark for social robot navigation that our team co-created, adds the moments no hospital can stage.

Intelligence needs a body. So we build our own.

Our one-person shuttle, an elevator for the horizontal, is built for indoor autonomy and will be the first machine to run on Mitwelt. Building our own means Mitwelt learns in real hallways, not just simulated ones.

Already co-funded by a university hospital.

At University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein, we’re connecting Mitwelt to doors, elevators and logistics software, and the hospital intends to roll it out on both campuses. We also work with Mayo Clinic and other hospital and airport partners on both sides of the Atlantic.

One model. Every building. Every robot.

Today, every new site is an engineering project. What Mitwelt learns in one building is designed to carry over to the next, and to every kind of robot, including humanoids. Robot makers build the machines. Mitwelt gives them the intelligence to work among people. And they will need it: the world is running short of workers, and the robots coming to help will share it with everyone else.

Umwelt is the world around you. Mitwelt is the world you share.
